I designed this tool to make the grooves on my handles, and the gallery for my lidded containers. The curved side is for the grooves on handles, and is also great for creating a curve at the bottom of hand built ceramics. The flat side is perfect for creating a gallery to hold the lid of a pot.

I’ve always wanted the wood tools that I’ve purchased to be more durable, I also wanted them to be a little more ergonomically comfortable. So I decided to make my own wooden tools, using nice hardwood. I’ve also added some grooves in the right places for comfort! This particular hardwood tool is made from reclaimed woods, like cherry and or maple. These are extremely dense hardwoods, making for long lasting tools.

My tools are finished with beeswax (from our very own bees) and a food grade mineral oil mixture. To extend the life of the tools it’s best not to leave them in your slurry bucket, and to wipe them clean after using.

I have been asked over and over again how I make the handles for my mugs, pitchers, and batter bowls. If you have rented my video on Vimeo, or have taken a workshop with me you now know how it is done, and may want to try one of these tools out! If you would like to rent the video please visit my learn page.

Many of you have asked me to sell these tools… so here you are!
