My Homemade Spray Booth

Pottery Spray Booth

Typically I dip my finished pottery into a large bucket of glaze that I’ve made. When I want some special effects I spray glazes. The only problem with spraying glazes is that the glaze particles get in the air, and your lungs… not a good thing.

I started spraying glazes about 5-6 years ago. I purchased one of those pop up spray tents to contain the particles, but it did not work out very well, as it had no place for a vent. I then purchased a small airbrush spray booth with a fan. The fan wasn’t strong enough, and the booth was too small for my larger pottery. So, I went to YouTube university and gathered as much information as I could on making my own spray booth. Most of the DIY videos were lacking something for my needs. They were either too big, too small, too clunky… etc. Watching all the different DIY videos got the wheels turning. I used my knowledge of making hoop houses for season extension from our garden, I bought a laundry sink, some wheels, gathered scrap lumber, and built a small portable spray booth.

Here is a little video on what I came up with.

Below is a list of the materials I used.

My small, portable, affordable spray booth on wheels.

Materials list:

•Utility sink.

•PVC pipe

•Old greenhouse glass

•Scrap lumber

•Flexible laminate

•Closet shelving

•U shaped clamps

•Utility wheels

•Badger airbrush

•Master airbrush compressor

•8” portable vent

•15’ flexible vent tubing

•Many hours of watching YouTube university for ideas on how to make a spray booth

•Farmer ingenuity

•Total cost for the booth was about $125. Not including airbrush, compressor and ventilation.
